Si: Cool Hand – Drums
Si hits things hard. He hits his drums very hard. ‘I’ve lost count of how many cymbals I’ve wrecked’ he smiles. Si smiles a lot, ‘I like this band’. BIG TIME CHARLIE’s authority, timing and solidity starts right here. At only 23 he’s been playing drums since the age of 10 and it’s now his greatest passion.
He’s had a close musical association with bassist Liam for a good few years now and in that time the pair have forged a solid partnership and it definitely shows. ‘I take what I do very seriously and focus on keeping the band musically tight so the guys at the front don’t have to worry’. People close to Si claim that he can’t make a decision to save his life. Fortunately he made the decision to join BIG TIME CHARLIE and somehow survived.
Martin: Big X - Frontman, Keyboards, Guitar
Martin is one of those musicians other musicians just love to hate, but in the nicest possible way of course. It’s just that he’s so damn talented and irritatingly slick with it. As BIG TIME CHARLIE’s frontman he handles the vocals superbly, the keyboards effortlessly and 2nd guitar with ease. ‘I’ve got grade 4 drums as well’…..yeah right.
Martin has been playing in bands since the age of 13 and he is BIG TIME CHARLIE’S creator and driving force, although he is quick to point out he is just 25% of the band. ‘I brought it together, the rest just happened on it’s own. I love what I do and BIG TIME CHARLIE is THE band I want to do it with. Yeah, I’m a complete control freak, but so what!’
Liam: The Prince – Bass Guitar, Vocals
Edgy, laid back, full of attitude and BIG TIME CHARLIE’s Mr Cool. ‘I like to party’ he says, ‘that’s both off stage AND on’. Making up 50% of BIG TIME CHARLIE’s driving rhythm section, Liam delivers a tight, solid groove throughout the band’s repertoire with a technical ability, style and panache that belies his age. ‘Yeah, I practice a lot, I want to be THAT good’ he laughs.
The 2nd set is where I can really go to town, it just keeps building and that’s what our audiences want’. He started playing guitar at the age of 12 and by 16 he was a regular on the local and regional band circuit. ‘We’re good, the songs are good, but people should get more from a live band. Something visual - that’s what I try to bring to BIG TIME CHARLIE live.
Kev: Flash – Lead Guitar, Keyboards
Firestarter, perfectionist and part-time extrovert, Kev is the most ‘experienced’ member of the group having played in covers bands over many years. ‘I’m very picky about the musicians and bands I’ll play with, if they’re not up to the mark I can’t be bothered. But BIG TIME CHARLIE has got it all: great songs, great performances and a great vibe. It’s all about giving people the best, no excuses’.
Kev’s trademark guitar sound is a big part of BIG TIME CHARLIE’s identity. In conjunction with Martin’s keyboard arrangements the pair of them manage to bring songs to life with unrivalled authenticity. ‘I like to get as close as I can to the original recording. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea and maybe it doesn’t matter, but it’s how I do it.’
